Xinfenghe River Water Environment Improvement Project is located in Daxing District of Beijing City, financed partially by the World Bank, which is composed of the construction contents of river regulation, flow separation, wastewater interception, water recycling, landscaping and monitoring of water environment impacts. The regulation section of the river is 12.61 km long.

The comprehensive management mode of urban river water environment is put forward and applied, and the outcomes include: the water resource allocation model based on ecological flow, water recycling measures, the creation of diverse habitats in the river, the ecological bank protection emphasizing “harmony” and “symbiosis”, and the design of pneumatic shield gate, being the first of such gates in China. In 2019, the water environment quality in the river basin was upgraded from worse than Class V to surface water Class IV.
