The Project is located in Taihang mountainous area, Huixian City of Henan Province, with installed capacity of 2,100 MW and rated head of up to 682 m.

In the project area, the valley is U-shaped with steep bank slopes. The terrain conditions are complex, which makes geological exploration very difficult. The Project consists of upper reservoir, lower reservoir, headrace system, underground powerhouse and tunnels. Asphalt concrete face rockfill dam is adopted for both the upper and lower reservoirs, and the whole reservoir basin is protected from permeability. 3 power tunnels with 6 generating units are arranged, and 6 vertical shaft single-stage mixed-flow reversible pump turbines are installed with unit capacity of 350 MW.

With such large installed capacity and high head, the Project ranks among the largest pumped storage power stations in China.
