Baoquan Pumped Storage Power Station Project is located in Huixian City of Henan Province, characteristics of 4 vertical-shaft Francis-type reversible pump-turbine generating units, with installed capacity of 1,200 MW, and power head of 531 m. The power station is composed of underground powerhouse, transformer chamber and switchyard.

The lower reservoir is formed with a grouted masonry gravity overflow dam in height of 107 m, and flip bucket for energy dissipation. The upper reservoir is formed with an asphalt concrete face rockfill dam in height of 92.5 m, and open spillway and non-pressured drainage tunnel are arranged in saddle dam for flood release. The combined anti-seepage system is adopted for the upper reservoir, including asphalt concrete face rockfill dam, grouted masonry gravity saddle dam, asphalt concrete face bank, and clay plinth as bottom protection, which is the first example of such technology in China.
