Dongzhuang Dam Project on Jinghe River is one of 172 national major water projects, and an important tributary reservoir in the Yellow River water-sediment regulation system. The development aims for flood control and downstream sedimentation reduction, as well as water supply, power generation and ecological improvement. The reservoir has a total storage capacity of 3.276 billion m³, and the Project is classified as large (1). The installed electricity capacity is 110 MW, and the planned construction period is 95 months.

The project is composed of the 230 m high concrete double-curvature arch dam, plunge pool, power facilities, and combined intake towers for water supply, power generation and sediment flushing. The discharge structures through the dam consist of 3 crest spillways, 4 mid-level flood and silt outlets, and 2 low-level silt outlets. The power generation systems are arranged in the left bank, and the diversion tunnel is in the right bank.

After completion, the Project will function crucially in the Yellow River water-sediment regulation system, catch hold of the water-sediment relationship, and play a role in the flood control system of the lower Weihe River.
