Zongo II Hydropower Project and Transmission Lines in DR Congo

Zongo II Hydropower Project and transmission lines are located in Congo Central of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Project is equipped with three Francis turbine generating units with a unit capacity of 50 MW and a total installed capacity of 150 MW. It is interconnected with Zongo I Hydropower Station and supplies electrical power to the capital city of Kinshasa through 64 km 220 kV double-circuit transmission lines.

The Project is mainly composed of the dam, the water intake and power generation system and the river-side surface powerhouse. The dam is arranged on the Inkisi River, a tributary of the Congo River, and the tributary feeds into the Congo River 4.4 km downstream. The powerhouse is located on the left bank of the Congo River. The completion acceptance of the Project was witnessed on March 10, 2020.

Entrusted by the Société Nationale d’Electricité (SNEL) of DRC, YREC has provided the life-cycle consulting and supervision services, fulfilled the river closure acceptance, impoundment acceptance and units commissioning and power generation acceptance, and implemented the consulting services of the 220 kV double-circuit transmission lines.
