The Project has a total installed capacity of 1,500 MW. It is located in the area of seismic intensity IX with intense geological structure activities and complex stratum lithology. Challenges for the large-scale settling tank involve uneven foundation settlement and sand liquefaction in the strong earthquake-prone area. For the deep-buried headrace tunnel of 24.8 km long, the shaft of about 600 m deep, and the large-span and complex underground powerhouse cavern groups, research covers unstable surrounding rocks, soft rock deformation, water burst, etc. All these challenges have been overcome through corresponding investigations by YREC.
